With more than 30 years of experience as a large law-firm partner and general counsel, Mr. Wilkinson brings to his clients a wealth of corporate finance, securities, transactional, and executive expertise. He has a proven track record of forging long-term working relationships with executive management teams. He currently represents clients in a wide range of industries, including real estate, finance and hospitality, including hotel owners, hedge funds, non-bank real estate lenders, real estate and hotel developers and executives in a wide range of industries. Mr. Wilkinson was previously chief legal officer and secretary of Capital Pacific Holdings, Inc., a publicly traded $600 million real-estate company based in Newport Beach, California, with operations in multiple states. Prior to Capital Pacific, Mr. Wilkinson was a partner at Wiley Rein LLP, a prominent Washington, DC law firm, where he led the firm’s corporate practice and loss-mitigation program. Previously, he practiced corporate and banking law as a partner in his own law firm and as an associate in the Washington, DC office of the international law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher, LLP.

Representative Experience

  • Serves as general transactional counsel to $2 billion hedge fund which invests in mortgage backed securities and residential real estate
  • Serves as outside counsel to two non-bank real estate lenders with over $2 billion in originations, including loan documentation, institutional loan sales, commercial debt, workouts and general representation
  • Serves as corporate counsel to one of the largest home building trade associations in the US
  • Oversaw all legal activities — including general corporate matters, securities law compliance, corporate finance, and risk management — of $600 million, publicly traded company for seven years
  • Represented multiple hotel owners in negotiating hotel management agreements, technical services agreements and license agreements with major hotel operators and brands, including Starwood, Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, Virgin and Kimpton
  • Regularly represents investees in private equity transactions
  • Responsible for over $500 million in senior, subordinated, and project-level financing, an annual average of $300 million in land acquisitions, and led a public homebuilder through a complex “going private” transaction
  • Extensive experience in workouts both for lenders and borrowers through multiple real estate cycles
  • Lead transactional counsel in acquisition of 24,000-acre real estate development site
  • Lead transactional counsel to television and radio operators in acquisitions of more than 500 radio and television stations
